The Investment Company Institute has tapped former markets regulator Eric Pan as its next president and CEO, effective Nov. 9. He will succeed retiring CEO Paul Schott Stevens, who has led the $75 million-revenue association since 2004.

Pan currently is managing director of Rock Creek Global Advisors, an international economic policy advisory firm, where he focuses on international financial regulatory and policy matters, according to a biography on the firm's website.

The incoming ICI CEO previously had a long career in markets regulation. Pan is the former director of the Office of International Affairs at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. He was also the first Head of International Regulatory Policy at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he was recruited to assist in the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act and the G-20 reforms.

"Eric Pan's global experience, deep financial and regulatory insight, and strong commitment to investor protection and service uniquely qualify him to lead ICI into its ninth decade," ICI Chairman George C. W. Gatch said in a statement.

Pan will be the 10th chief executive in the 80-year history of ICI, which represents investment companies and other regulated funds. The association currently has 174 staff in offices in Washington, D.C., London and Hong Kong.

Pan has a master's degree in European and international politics from the University of Edinburgh and a law degree from Harvard Law School.
